The time between events is known as downtime and allows you to continue enjoying the experience of Arcadia LARP even when we are not on the field. The world ticks along as normal, so your character will be doing something with their time. Each character has their own agenda and might spend their downtime alone enhancing their own goals or working with another to learn new skills or scout and explore new areas.

How to Submit

Submitting downtime is not compulsory so feel no pressure to complete anything in between events. However should you chose to add an extra depth to your roleplay and progress your characters between events you must submit your downtime roleplay to the character referee at least two weeks before the event. Emails received after this time will not be counted and you will have lost your opportunity to progress. Downtime should be one side of A4 per character and emailed to arcadialarpcharacterref@gmail.com

Downtime Rules

  • No one can kill another player character or NPC in their written downtime.
  • You cannot include other player characters or NPC's in your downtime unless they are aware and are happy to be involved, their downtime must reflect yours. This also applies for group downtime.
  • If you're searching for something in your downtime it's up to the character ref if your character finds it.
  • Downtime doesn’t guarantee an automatic completion of a task.
  • Downtime can be used to learn new skills from other player characters. By teaching someone new skills you give up your downtime to teach them. By learning a skill from a player character you gain a discount for that skill. Some skills take longer to learn and may require several downtimes.
  • You may only learn or teach one skill per downtime unless you have the educated perk, if the time between events is longer than the time it takes to learn or teach you may participate in other activities.
  • Recipes and schematics are learnt from researching and practising, or from other players. However researching and practising takes twice as long to learn and requires resources. When learning from a player each recipe and schematic takes the same amount of time to learn as the skill, which is equal to the level of the recipe or schematic being learnt. For example a level 1 heal potion would take ½ week to learn as it is a trained level potion whereas an all heal potion will take 2 weeks to learn as it is a master level potion.
  • When submitting downtime do not ask for specific amount of resources the character ref will determine the amount you receive an example searching for rare herbs do not put “I found 5 herbs when looking in the woods.”
  • Please make sure that your downtime is realistic, your character must act the same in downtime as they do at the event, they cannot single handily save a village from attack if they are just a bard.
  • Sometimes the plot referees might put up a scenario after an event to help further plot between events, you can chose to take part in it or participate in your own thing.
  • If you start to learn something you have to finish it you can't swap and change. You’re tied into learning it until learnt or you can say you don't want to take that skill now but you lose your time spent learning it.
